Laelen was founded on a frustration I couldn't ignore. As a Scottish woman and a mother of two, I spent years navigating the layered reality of a full modern life without ever quite finding clothing that understood it.
The idea took shape in Copenhagen, where I travelled regularly for work. Watching women move through the world with a confidence and ease that stayed with me, something became clear. A personal code. Unapologetic. Unhurried. Proud to be stylish without being defined by it.
Proudly Scottish, I had always admired the strength and heritage of traditional brands - but rarely saw myself, or the women around me, reflected in them. They spoke of history, but not of the complexity of women's lives today. of women balancing work, family and self today.
So I started over.

The Signature Trench is drawn from the legacy of the Scottish Mackintosh coat, reinterpreted for modern women who need outerwear that works as hard as they do. The Asymmetric Shirt takes its silhouette from the Scottish sash, historically worn as a mark of distinction, reimagined as a contemporary expression of feminine strength.The Tailored Drawstring Trouser is coloured in the dark grey of Aberdeen granite, the stone that built the city Alex grew up in.
